Local Attractions
Our resort is an ideal home base for daily excursions through the redwoods and to the coast. Easy day trips to Fort Bragg, the Mendocino Coast, Avenue of the Giants, Ferndale, Shelter Cove and Eureka provide rich experiences.
Some of the popular Local Attractions nearby to us are:
- The famous Confusion Hill and the World Famous Tree House - mentioned in Ripley's Believe-it-or-Not - contains a room 21' by 27' with a fifty-foot cavity ceiling, it stands over 250 feet high, 101 feet in circumference and its estimated age is 4,000 years - are our neighbors.
- The Chandelier Drive-Thru Tree is world famous and stands 315 feet high and accommodates full sized cars, and they are located just seven miles south of us.
- Nine miles north of us is the Grandfather Tree - world famous for its picturesque qualities. It stretches 245 feet tall with one of the largest tree trunks measuring 24 feet in diameter and 55 feet in circumference. Just up the road a bit is the Legend of the Bigfoot. See the world famous 'bigfoot' for yourself. You also can enjoy seeing the Redwood Fountain and a variety of original wood carvings.
- Richardson Grove State Park and its fabulous redwoods and trails is just six miles north.
- The King Range National Conservation Area and Sinkyone Wilderness are within 30 miles of our resort.
- Benbow Lake State Park and Benbow Golf Course are about 11 miles north of us. The state provides boat rentals and picnic areas. The 9 hole golf course is located across from the highway.
- Humboldt Redwoods State Park is some 45 miles north of us and is a major component of the Avenue of the Giants (which starts 21 miles north of us). The Lost Coast Drive begins on the Avenue of the Giants and ends in Ferndale - a delightful day's tour of out-of-the-way places. Ferndale is a delightful town that still retains its Victorian flavor with homes over 100 years old.
- Shelter Cove is a wonderful day trip if you like black sand beaches and shore fishing on the ocean. The protected Bay lies on the Lost Coast of California. This Cape Mendocino fishing resort is at the farthest most western point of the continental United States.
- The beautiful coast at Mendocino - A quaint village, founded in 1852, perched on a bluff overlooking the Pacific with New England style buildings, contains artifacts of days gone by. Fort Bragg is only an hour and a half away and is a splendid place to spend a day. The Botanical Gardens - located south of Fort Bragg - are beautifully landscaped, lavish with flowers and shrubs, and meadows of color, with a backdrop of primeval forest.
- The towns of Garberville and Redway - 15 miles north of us - are both full service communities with a hospital, health clinics, markets, restaurants, motels, filling stations, shops, etc.
